Before: Sunroom, Mudroom and Office

Louis Kahn put it best. “A room is not a room without natural light.” This sunroom to sunroom/mudroom/office conversion is sure to have glowing reviews. Bad pun, moving on. Originally, what is now the sunroom was once the porch. Somewhere in the home’s near 80-year history, the porch was bricked up to add some needed square footage.

I can’t wait to get my hands on this room — once completed, it will serve as the brains behind my household operation. I’ll have a sunroom with a desk area for work from home (coronavirus anyone?) and laundry complete with built-ins for easy storage.

During demo, we uncovered a hidden gem… OG tile was lying in wait under two layers of carpet! I love the vintage red tiles and think they’ll pair well with the white paint and natural wood colored built-ins I have planned. Gotta love saving $600 in tile.

To create a sense of separation between the sunroom/mudroom and the kitchen/dining, I’ve landed on custom French doors. I’m going with a black wood frame (to tie into the kitchen hardware) and lots of glass to ensure the natural light seeps into the rest of the home. Shout-out to Style Me Pretty Living and Intimate Living Interiors for the inspo!
